You will experience a journey starting from the early days of solar energy and wind towards 100% renewable energies for all secondary energy needs.
The course starts with an analysis about the global energy needs as of today, the whole portfolio of renewable energy types and the general demand. Onwards the global energy market is analyzed and the role of the PV segment is highlighted. We move on to the Price Experience Curve. The course is then concluded with a look on storage systems and integration into the grid systems as well as some future scenarios based on recent market numbers.

The course starts with an analysis about the global energy needs as of today, the whole portfolio of renewable energy types and the general demand. Having these numbers in mind we then will have a look on the different renewable energy types, how they work and compare them to the conventional energy sources. Onwards the global energy market is analyzed and the role of the photovoltaic segment is highlighted.
As it is important to understand the PV value chain in order to get a feeling why prices drop, the photovoltaic basics in physics and technology are given. We move on to a very clever instrument – the Price Experience Curve. For mass produced products it is possible by analyzing the past price development to predict the future price development with an astonishing accuracy.
The course is then concluded with a look on storage systems and integration into the grid systems as well as some future scenarios that are most likely to happen based on recent market numbers.

Lernziele

After the course, the students should be able to:

  • Understand basic energy terms, efficiency measures, the global energy needs in the future with respect to the future world population. (L1)
  • Understand and work with the concept of Price-Experience-Curves. (L2)
  • Get to know the market situation for the green-energy portfolio as well as the respective technical details and the economics for those technologies. (L3)
  • Get to know the history of PV, the basic physical principles for solar cells and the production technology. (L4)
  • Understand the historical different phases of the PV market development, the principles of feed-in tariffs and other support programs and the potential future growth of the PV market. (L5)
  • Understand the necessity for PV storage systems for the whole energy picture along with the possible technologies. (L6)
  • Get to know the full energy picture for 2050+ and some challenges on the way. (L7)·
