Solar Energy and Global Energy Needs (CAS)

This Certificate is designed to give fundamental knowledge about solar energy with its two significant applications: photovoltaics and thermal energy, as well as comprehensive knowledge about global energy needs in the future. The CAS Solar Energy and Global Energy Needs consists of four courses:

  • Solar Radiation and Solar Thermal Energy (2 ECTS)
  • Introduction to Solar Cells (2 ECTS)
  • Seminar on Technologies for Renewable Energy Conversion (2 ECTS)
  • The Global Energy Needs in a Nutshell (5 ECTS)
  • You understand solar geometry, distribution of solar radiation over time and space
  • You can explain different heat transfer forms and calculate heat transfer in simple applications
  • You perform energy yield calculations for PV systems and recognize the cost issues for PV technology
  • You understand the portfolio of all renewable technologies
