The Advanced Modules (CAS) offered by the Centre of Medicine and Society are designed for professionals and graduates and offer the opportunity to update knowledge, gain and amplify specific research or intervention skills concerning their area of profession and related research. The modules are intended for qualified professionals to intensify qualification in the field of urbanisation, and global health for example in disease control, migration, environmental management or mental health in urban areas. It is possible to extend the individual modules to a Master of Science in “Global Urban Health”.

Doctors, experienced working professionals and decision makers in the field of urban health to interested newcomers in the field, such as politicians, teachers and scientific journalists.
Teilnahmevoraussetzungen
Advanced Modules / CAS are open to professionals in health, social sciences including economics, urban planning and others holding a higher academic degree or trained professionals with one or more years of working experience.
English skills: fluent in written and spoken are required.
Zulassungsunterlagen
Candidates can apply by uploading the completed “Application Form for Advanced Modules” as well as a curriculum vitae and a short motivation letter (half a page). You can find the application forms on the individual shop site of every module.

The MSc in Global Urban Health is organized through an interdisciplinary effort covering different topic areas in relation to urban health need, including:
- Research Concepts and Methods (Epidemiology, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics, Geography, and Anthropology)
- Communicable Diseases and Quality Assured Programmes
- Environment & Non-Communicable Diseases
- Migration, Violence and Mental Health among the Urban Poor
The core module (Research Concepts and Methods) has the duration of 3 months and all subsequent advanced modules last 2 weeks each. Each of the course modules (core module + advanced modules) can be completed as a short course, for a Certificate of Advanced Studies.

Lernziele
The MSc in Global Urban Health at the University of Freiburg offers professionals from different backgrounds – medical, social sciences, municipal planning, anthropological, psychological and others – the opportunity of a high-quality, practice-oriented postgraduate training, which opens career opportunities at national and international level. The course offers students the opportunity to discuss Global Health issues under an interdisciplinary lens, with input from several faculties of the University of Freiburg as well as external lecturers.

Each module is a separate entity that leads to a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS). Further the modules are components of the Master of Science in Global Urban Health. After participation in one advanced module participants can extend their studies to obtain a Master of Science in Global Urban Health.
In case of entering the full Master’s Program, one Advanced Module / CAS can be completed before participating in the core module.
